Theatres in the Round Raleigh, North Carolina

Theatres in the Round was formed in January 2005. From there it was only a matter of months until their debut CD, "Why Should We Wait Any Longer?", was released. Soon after its release, Dennis did not hesitate to begin working on the follow-up. While "Why Should We Wait" focused on his softer side, Dennis really wanted to let out his harder edge. Less than 1 year later "Satiate" was released. ... more

Track Name: Pure Imagination
Track Name: Scooby Doo
Verse 1
Scooby Dooby Doo, where are you
We got some work to do now
Scooby Dooby Doo, where are you
We need some help from you now

Verse 2
C'mon Scooby-Doo, I see you
Pretendin' you've got a sliver
You're not foolin' me, 'Cause I can see
The way you shake and shiver

You know we got a mystery to solve
So Scooby-Doo be ready for your act, don't hold back
And Scooby Doo if you come through
You're gonna have yourself a Scooby snack

Verse 3
Scooby Dooby Doo, here are you
You're ready and you're willin'
If we can count on you, Scooby-Doo
I know we'll catch that villain
Track Name: I Know You Know
Verse 1
In-between the lines there’s a lot of obscurity
I’m not inclined to resign to maturity
If it’s all, then you’re all wrong
But why bounce around to the same damn song
You’d rather run when you can crawl

I know, you know
That I’m not telling the truth
I know, you know
They just don’t have any proof
Embrace the deception, learn how to bend
Your worst inhibitions tend to psych you out in the end
I know, you know (2x)

Verse 2
In the realm of compliments there isn’t any higher than
Fabricated misdirection fashioned by a liar
You think you hate, all that you love
Acting so surprised when it fits you like a glove
You wanna find the answers and offer a solution
Happy one has got a dose of healthy disillusion
If it’s a game, they wanna play
You better load the dice cause they’ll do it anyway
But, you’d rather run when you can’t crawl

Track Name: The Stranger
Verse 1
Well we all have a face
That we hide away forever
And we take them out and show ourselves
When everyone has gone
Some are satin some are steel
Some are silk and some are leather
They're the faces of the stranger
But we love to try them on

Verse 2
Well we all fall in love
But we disregard the danger
Though we share so many secrets
There are some we never tell
Why were you so surprised?
That you never saw the stranger
Did you ever let your lover see
The stranger in yourself?

Don't be afraid to try again
Everyone goes south every now and then, oh oh
You've done it, why can't someone else?
You should know by now you've been there yourself

Verse 3
Once I used to believe
I was such a great romancer
Then I came home to a woman
That I could not recognize
When I pressed her for a reason
She refused to even answer
It was then I felt the stranger
Kick me right between the eyes

Verse 4
You may never understand
How the stranger is inspired
But he isn't always evil
And he is not always wrong
Though you drown in good intentions
You will never quench the fire
You'll give in to your desire
When the stranger comes along

Track Name: Wake Me Up
Verse 1:
Feeling my way through the darkness
Guided by a beating heart
I can't tell where the journey will end
But I know where it starts
They tell me I'm too young to understand,
They say I'm caught up in a dream
Well life will pass me by if I don't open up my eyes
Well that's fine by me

Chorus (x2):
So wake me up when it's all over
When I'm wiser and I'm older
All this time I was finding myself, And I
I didn't know I was lost

Verse 2:
I tried carrying the weight of the world
But I only have two hands
Hope I get the chance to travel the world
But I don't have any plans
I wish that I could stay forever this young
Not afraid to close my eyes
Life's a game made for everyone
And love is the prize

Chorus (x2):
Track Name: House of the Rising Sun
Verse 1
There is a house in New Orleans
They call the Risin' Sun
And it's been the ruin of many a poor boy.
And God, I know I'm one.

Verse 2
My mother was a tailor.
She sewed my new blue jeans.
My father was a gamblin' man
Down in New Or-leans.

Verse 3
Now, the only thing a gambler needs
Is a suitcase and a trunk
And the only time that he's satisfied
Is when he's on a drunk

Verse 4
Oh, Mother, tell your children
Not to do what I have done.
Spend your lives in sin and misery
In the house of the risin' sun.

Verse 5
Well, I've got one foot on the platform.
the other foot on the train.
I'm goin' back to New Orleans
To wear that ball and chain.

Verse 1
Track Name: Have You Ever Seen the Rain
Verse 1
Someone told me long ago
There's a calm before the storm,
I know
It's been comin for some time.
When it's over, so they say,
It'll rain a sunny day,
I know
Shinin down like water.

I want to know, have you ever seen the rain
I want to know, have you ever seen the rain
Comin down on a sunny day

Verse 2
Yesterday, and days before,
Sun is cold and rain is hard,
I know
Been that way for all my time.
'Til forever, on it goes
Through the circle, fast and slow,
I know
It can't stop, I wonder.

Chorus (2x)
Track Name: Tiptoe Through the Tuplips
Shades of night are creeping
Willow trees are weeping
Old folks and babies are sleeping
Silver stars are gleaming
Alone I'm scheming
Scheming to get you out here my dear

Verse 1:
Tiptoe through the window
By the window, that is where I'll be
Come tiptoe through the tulips with me

Verse 2:
Oh, tiptoe from the garden
By the garden of the willow tree
And tiptoe through the tulips with me

Knee deep in flowers we'll stray
We'll keep the showers away

Verse 3:
And if I kiss you in the garden, in the moonlight
Will you pardon me?
And tiptoe through the tulips with me

Verse 3
Track Name: Short People
Verse 1
Short People got no reason
Short People got no reason
Short People got no reason
To live

Chorus 1
They got little hands
Little eyes
They walk around
Tellin' great big lies
They got little noses
And tiny little teeth
They wear platform shoes
On their nasty little feet
Well, I don't want no Short People
Don't want no Short People
Don't want no Short People
`Round here

Short People are just the same
As you and I
(A Fool Such As I)
All men are brothers
Until the day they die
(It's A Wonderful World)

Verse 2
Short People got nobody
Short People got nobody
Short People got nobody
To love

Chorus 2
They got little baby legs
That stand so low
You got to pick 'em up
Just to say hello
They got little cars
That go beep, beep, beep
They got little voices
Goin' peep, peep, peep
They got grubby little fingers
And dirty little minds
They're gonna get you every time
Well, I don't want no Short People
Don't want no Short People
Don't want no Short People
'Round here
Track Name: The Night They Drove Old Dixie Down
Verse 1
Virgil Caine is the name, and I served on the Danville train
'Till Stoneman's cavalry came and tore up the tracks again
In the winter of '65, we were hungry, just barely alive
By May the tenth, Richmond had fell, it's a time I remember, oh so well

The night they drove old Dixie down, and the bells were ringing
The night they drove old Dixie down, and the people were singin' they went
La, la, la, la, la, la, la, la, la, la, la, la, la, la

Verse 2
Back with my wife in Tennessee, when one day she called to me
"Virgil, quick, come see, there goes Robert E Lee"
Now I don't mind choppin' wood, and I don't care if the money's no good
Ya take what ya need and ya leave the rest,
But they should never have taken the very best

Verse 3
Like my father before me, I will work the land
Like my brother above me, who took a rebel stand
He was just eighteen, proud and brave, but a Yankee laid him in his grave
I swear by the mud below my feet,
You can't raise a Caine back up when he's in defeat

Track Name: Les Triplettes de Belleville

J' veux pas finir mes jours à Tombouctouuuu... (Tombouctouuuu)
La peau tirée par des machines à clous
Moi je veux être frippé, triplement frippé
Frippé comme une triplette de Belleville

Verse 2
J' veux pas finir ma vie à Accapullllllllcoooo (Accapullllllllcoooo)

Swinging Belleville rendez-vous
Marathon dancing doum dilouuu
Vaudou Cancan, balais tabouuu
Au Belleville swinging rendez-vous

Verse 3

Verse 5
J' voudrai finir ma vie à Katmandouuuu (Katmandouuuu)
C'est bien plus doux de faire des rimes en "ou"
Mais je veux être givré, triplement givré
Swinguer comme les triplettes de Belleville

Chorus (2x)
Track Name: Hallelujah
Verse 1
I’ve heard there was a secret chord
That David played and it pleased the Lord
But you don’t really care for music do you?

It goes like this, the fourth, the fifth
The minor fall, the major lift
The baffled King composing Hallelujah

Hallelujah, hallelujah
Hallelujah, hallelujah

Verse 2
Your faith was strong but you needed proof
You saw her bathing on the roof
Her beauty in the moonlight overthrew you

She tied you to a kitchen chair
She broke your throne, and she cut your hair
And from your lips she drew the hallelujah

Verse 3
Maybe I’ve been here before
I know this room, I’ve walked this floor
I used to live alone before I knew you

I’ve seen your flag on the marble arch
Love is not a victory march
It’s a cold and it’s a broken hallelujah

Track Name: The Weight
Verse 1
I pulled into Nazareth, I was feeling about half past dead.
I just need some place where I can lay my head.
"Hey, Mister, can you tell me where a man might find a bed?"
He just grinned, shook my hand, "No" was all he said.

Take a load off, Fanny.
Take a load for free.
Take a load off, Fanny.
And... you put the load right on me.

Verse 2
I picked up my bag. I went looking for a place to hide.
When I saw Carmen and the devil walking side by side.
I said, "Hey, Carmen, come on. Let's go downtown."
She said, "I got to go, but my friend can stick around."

Verse 3
Go down, Miss Moses, there's nothing you can say.
It's just old Luke, and Luke's waiting on the judgment day.
"Well, Luke, my friend, what about young Anna Lee?"
He said, "Do me a favor, son, won't you stay and keep Anna Lee company."

Verse 4
Crazy Chester followed me and he caught me in the fog.
He said, "I will fix your rack, if you'll take Jack my dog."
I said, "Wait a minute, Chester. You know I'm a peaceful man."
He said, "That's okay, boy. Won't you feed him when you can?"

Verse 5
Get your Canonball now, to take me down the line.
My bag is sinking low, and I do believe it's time
To get back to Miss Fanny. You know she's the only one
Who sent me here with her regards for everyone.
